Elaine is concerned
her baby Jason is not developing at the same pace as other babies at 9 months.
She is looking for some advice and suggestions to help her baby reach those milestones.
“I recently joined a mum’s group and whenever I meet up with them I always leave feeling a bit inadequate as a mum. While we are watching and chatting about the babies, I can’t help but compare my son Jason with the others. I realise all babies are different, but Jason seems to be a bit behind in some areas.
The other babies are babbling and making recognizable sounds like ‘dada’ while Jason is still only making noises. I also heard other mums bragging about their babies’ ability to cruise around the furniture. While Jason isn’t cruising yet, he can stand if he holds on to something. I was also surprised two babies were eating finger foods… REAL food like fruit and soft cheese, whereas Jason is still having formula mixed with cereal. On the other hand I also notice when we leave that Jason waves bye bye to everyone and only one other baby does the same.
I’m anxious to find out if other mums feel the same – Jason has had all his developmental check ups and I’ve been told he’s doing just fine so I think it’s just paranoia on my part. At the same time I want to help my baby’s development along in any way that I can, although I don’t want to pressure him to achieve those milestones either.”
Are you
concerned about your baby’s development? Do you feel they are reaching
milestones when they should? Please
share your thoughts. By taking some time to help another mum you can
hopefully ease Elaine’s concerns about her son’s development.
