Christine is adjusting to balancing motherhood, working from home and household chores. The baby monitor she uses is second hand and is no longer working properly. It no longer gives her peace of mind and she needs one she can rely on.
“I am a relatively new mum who has recently started working again. I am fortunate that I have a job that allows me to work part time from home. I need to spend at least 5 hours a day on the computer to do my work which I fit in when the baby sleeps during the day and each evening.
My problem is that I have been using a baby monitor that someone gave me and is quite old. It is no longer functioning properly and most of the time I can only hear static. I have been having a difficult time concentrating on my work because it seems like every few minutes I am jumping up to check on my little one because I can no longer hear her clearly. To make matters worse, I am also exhausted from running up and down the stairs all day. Even the slightest movement seems to cause static on this monitor. For the same reason, I am also having trouble accomplishing any of my housework. Folding laundry or cleaning up just seems to take an enormous amount of time because I am always stopping to check on her. I know there are different kinds of monitors but I am unsure of which type would suit my needs the best. I am aware there are monitors with video now, which I would really like, but I also know these are costly. Our finances are a bit tight right now so I’m wondering if I should just get the same basic model with a portable receiver again. It would be really helpful if I could get some suggestions on monitors and hear what worked well for other mums in my similar situation”
