Anne, mum to 3 week old Jamie is suffering from an
oversupply of milk for her little one.
“Since Jamie was born it’s all been a bit overwhelming, he’s my first and I feel like I’ve been on such a huge learning curve with all the baby care, breastfeeding and learning to survive on little to no sleep. The breastfeeding has been going really well thankfully, in fact I think it’s going a bit too well and I seem to have an abundance of milk. My boobs are huge and they get so full between feeds that it is painful, not to mention messy when they leak everywhere.
Everyone tells me this will sort itself out in time and friends and family members have prescribed all sorts of remedies from cold wash cloths to cabbage leaves to try and help them settle down. Poor Jamie gets a faceful of milk whenever he tries to latch on and I can hear him desperately gulping so as not to drown.
I’ve been trying to avoid expressing between feeds as I know this will only make it worse but is there anything I can do to relieve the discomfort? When will things start to settle down? Don’t get me wrong, I’m really glad there’s enough milk to go around but it’s driving me crazy!”
Can you relate? If you have experienced an oversupply of
milk and can help Carla, share your advice here and help other mums who might
be suffering the discomfort of too much milk. By taking a few minutes to fill
out our quick survey you can help Carla and others like her. Thanks, Shona x
